Video Game Spotlight: Boku no Natsuyasumi 2 Umi no Bouken Hen (PlayStation 2) [Translation]

"My Summer Vacation 2 : Sea Adventure Chapter" is the English translated title for this game. This is an excellent game that only just recently been translated over from Japanese, so prior to this English-speaking countries never got to experience the entire four game franchise. The gameplay is very unique however it technically falls under the adventure game genre. Your character is a nine year old boy called Boku (literally "me" in Japanese) who is sent off on his school Summer vacation month-long holiday of August while his mother endures her final weeks of pregnancy. During this time you control little Boku as he explores and interacts with a world that's new to him where he is staying at his Auntie, Uncle's and little cousin's house which is a guest lodging in a small sea-side country village.

Each day you are in control of little Boku and you can explore the area and interact with anything and anyone you come across in your adventures. There are several mysteries to uncover regarding the history of the town and it's people which you will only get to the bottom of by talking and interacting with the towns people. Different events will unfold in the game depending on how you act and re-act during certain situations. Usually, each day a noteworthy unique event will occur which Boku writes about in his diary. Though it may at first seem like a boring country sea-side village where nothing ever happens, Boku soon finds out there is more than meets the eye here. Enjoy snorkeling, fishing, bug catching and bug sumo wrestling as nice side quest distractions from the main game.

Hardware Spotlight: Heber MiSTeR Multisystem2 FPGA Game Console

Created by Heber Ltd in the United Kingdom and distributed by Heber at the Retro Collective. This is an all-in-one console system that can play games from many different console using FPGA technology. There is a long list of FPGA compatible cores listed on the GitHub FPGA webpage which includes many micro-computers, a range of consoles from Atari 2600 up to the Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn. It doesn't support PS2, PS3 or Sega Dreamcast. All games are accessed by the system using an SD card which is inserted into a slot at the front of the console.

Other functionality can be added to the system by plugging specific cartridges into the cartridge slot such as to add input ports for console specific controllers. So one console can replace well over a dozen of the most well known home console systems which can save you a lot of money. The most basic unit is the digital unit which can be purchased for £204, which when converted to AU$ is very close to what the Nintendo 64 cost at [the Australian] launch in 1997. The Analogue version of the console is £252 which is over $500 AUD but comes with a range of different video output options. Even at the more expensive price is still is very cost effective as it can negate the need to have to purchase many separate consoles if you collect for a few different systems.

The Multisystem2 is still taking pre-orders that will start shipping out in August 2025.
