We have just received a shipment of several new, very useful and affordable game maintenance tools that no serious retro gamer should be without. There are 3 new products we have added to our growing range of hand picked retro gaming products which are game bit 3.8mm and 4.5mm tools. These are necessary tools needed for opening Nintendo and Sega cartridges and consoles for cleaning, maintenance and authenticity verification. Whether a battery needs to be replaced, an acid leak needs to be cleaned up or a game is suspected of being a bootleg there are many reasons for why these tools are indispensable to the pro-active retro gamer and collector.

RetroGame.News Online Shop's first ever catalogue. This represents the majority of our range for Q1 2026.

Game Bit's for Cartridge Maintenance and Battery Replacement

We sell these bits separately for as little as $6 (with free shipping in Australia) for those who know what tool they need for a specific task they have in mind. We also sell them both in a kit that also includes a driver for ease of use for the retro gamer / collector who wants these tools in their possession to be prepared for any situation. When dealing with cartridges that are 20-30 years old they are almost guaranteed to need to either require cleaning, maintenance or  have their battery replaced at that point. The most common batteries used in cartridges by far are the CR2032 type and less common is the CR2025 battery types. In any case the tool needed to open the cartridge (and in some cases the console) is the game bit 3.8mm or game bit 4.5mm. If you know which type you need you can order the specific game bit tool otherwise you can order both of them for $11.98 total with free shipping or you can order a kit with both tools and a driver that fits both bits for $23.99 also with free shipping.

Every serious retro game collector that collects for Super Nintendo and/or Nintendo 64, no doubt has at least one game in it’s box is in very good to mint condition. It’s very important for game collectors to preserve their game cartridge boxes in top shape so that they don’t incur further damage from being handled or even from being in storage. The best economical solution to this issue has to be the clear, flexible plastic shells that come as a flat sheet which is then folder into the shape of a cartridge box. These shells are made to perfectly fit Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 game box cartridges, as they had a standardized box size even between PAL and NTSC regions. These plastic shells are an elegant solution to store and protect games. You can still have the games sitting on your shelf, next to it each other, stored in these plastic shells as the game boxes can be clearly seen. The games are also protected from the elements, dust, handling, moths/insects and accidents. They are a necessary investment to protect games which are worth $100 and up, which these days is nearly every single complete Super NES game. Super Nintendo Mouse Controller by Hyperkin

One of the Super Nintendo’s most popular and well known games is actually not strictly a game. It’s actually more an artist or creativity application and it’s called Mario Paint. It was extremely innovative and made big waves in the gaming scene in 1993 when it first hit the market. At that time game consoles were mainly known as being strictly for games, however there had been some exceptions before such as the R.O.B robot that was first sold with the Nintendo Entertainment System. Though these “extra curricular” applications never really gained enough attention to become popular like Mario Paint did. Many parents at the time were worried about their kid’s becoming addicted to video games and so Nintendo wanted to create a product to put their minds at ease so that they would see Nintendo as a company they could trust as looking out for the best interests of their children.

Nintendo’s answer was Mario Paint a creativity and digital paint program that came bundled with a mouse pad and mouse controller that plugged into the controller port of the Super Nintendo. It was a major success selling millions of copies worldwide and Nintendo forever gaining the trust of parent’s everywhere. This was the first Super NES cartridge that was compatible with the mouse, however it was not the last. There were many games that came out after Mario Paint that were compatible with the mouse making Mario Paint a title with high value for money as it came in accessory that could be used with other games. Some other games that can be used with the mouse include: Civilization, Cannon Fodder (PAL), Jurassic Park, King Arthur’s World, Lemmings 2, Mario and Wario, Nobunaga’s Ambition, Shien’s Revenge, SimAnt, SpellCraft, Utopia, Wolfenstein 3D and Wonder Project J (Japan). There are also ROM patches that are available for certain games that add mouse compatibility such as Shadowrun.

If you aren’t lucky enough to have a copy of Mario Paint for the SNES with the mouse, there is a much cheaper way that you can get a mouse. The third party retro game controller manufacturer Hyperkin released a mouse controller for the Super Nintendo called the HyperClick Retro Style Mouse for SNES. As far as I know it’s the only third party Super Nintendo mouse on the market and the only other mouse apart from official Nintendo mouse that was sold only with Mario Paint. It’s a high quality mouse and controller that’s very well built and is actually made for larger hands than the original mouse. It’s actually more attractive and a better design than the original mouse while still staying true to the same aesthetic hence the “Retro Style” part of the name. This product is available as new old stock and is available brand new in box from the Retro Game News online shop. This controller is no longer produced so once the stock that is out there it’s sold it will no longer be available. We are selling this great third party product for the Super NES for only $39.99.

Super Mario Bros The Movie Hot Wheels Plumber Van

Remember the original Super Mario Bros movie that was released in the 90’s? For those who old enough to remember the movie, you have probably tried your hardest to forget it. Yes it was an absolutely terrible, live action movie where hollywood had a little too much creative control and strayed quite a lot from the franchise. The result was quite a terrible movie that had very little to do with the Super Mario series of video games. It was a massive surprise when suddenly a good Super Mario Bros movie appeared in 2023. It used computer graphics and so was able to accurately re-create Mario and the rest of the characters as well as the world they inhabited. The result was a very good movie and redeemed Nintendo’s 90’s terrible excuse for a Mario Bros movie.

Early on in the movie when Mario and Luigi where still in the “real world” and had started their own plumbing business they had their own work van. You only saw it for a few seconds but it’s a very iconic looking van that you would recognize instantly if you saw it anywhere. Hot Wheels the toy car brand that has been around for many generations has faithfully re-created this van and released it just after the release of the movie. It’s a very attractive looking collectible that would make an excellent addition to any retro gamers collection. No longer manufactured this is new old stock with limited availability. If you would like to add this quality collectible to your collection then you are in luck because we have a supply of batch of units available at the Retro Game News Online Shop for $22.99 each.

The RGN Online Shop Range Includes Indie Games

The RetroGame.News Online Shop is still just starting out so there isn’t much of a range yet. However right from the very start a big part of our range is games developed by independent developers (indies) as well as homebrew games. We specifically search out quality indie games in brand new condition for our store. We currently have two games available for the Sony PlayStation 3, one of the newest systems to be labelled as a retro system as games are no longer being developed for it and systems are no longer sold in stores. It is a system that has been gaining a lot of attention recently by collectors as it has an incredibly large library of games it accumulated over it’s decade long life-cycle. There are many hidden gems in it’s library of thousands of games and we have two of them in our store which are new old stock. The games are both developed by Vblank Entertainment and have a unique retro style and sense of humor. These are games that were released late in the PlayStation’s 3 life and are very enjoyable games. They are Retro City Rampage DX and Shakedown Hawaii. See the online shop’s product page linked below for more information about these games.

RetroGame.News Supports Homebrew Games

As well as stocking indie games we are also always on the lookout for any homebrew games that we can acquire for stock in our store. The main difference between indie and homebrew games is that homebrew games are generally made by an individual where as indie games are made by a small independent gamer development company. However there are cases when the line between the two isn’t that clear. The RGN online store stocks a game for Game Boy DMG which is one of the games which blurs the line as it is developed by an individual under a indie label known as Kocian Tech and Game Brewery. I’m still not sure which is the developer and which is the publisher or which particular one is responsible for the game, they are both run by the same individual – Kestmir Kocian. He is a talented game dev who has released several games for the Game Boy DMG one of them being Luft Gears. This is a game that we have acquired from Kocian Tech to sell in our store. This game began life as a project on kickstarter and was very successful raising nearly 800% of their funding goal. It’s a unique space exploration simulation game which is a genre that the Game Boy DMG is lacking. This game is sold for the exact same price as it was sold for in the kickstarter campaign and the same price sold on the creator’s website. For more information see the product page linked below.

Luft Gears a Game Boy DMG homebrew game by Kocian Tech is a unique space exploration and spaceship simulation game that is well worth your attention.

Lego Dimensions - A Forgotten PlayStation 3 Gem

For retro gamers who are familiar with Retro Game News it is no secret that we love PlayStation 3. There are many articles about Sony PlayStation 3 and the games and we sell multiple PS3 products on the online store. There are the two indie games by Vblank Entertainment however I have not yet mentioned our other PlayStation 3 product. If you were an active gamer during the PS3’s life cycle you would probably remember Lego Dimensions – a toys to life video game that used Lego toys which interfaced with the system in order to provide a unique interactive gaming experience. Unlike other toys to life video games Lego has the advantage of being modular and is a toy that has been around forever that every retro gamer is familiar with. If this wasn’t enough of a recipe for success Lego Dimensions also acquired licenses from the most well known and popular TV and video game franchises to use in their game. The result was a fun romp through colliding worlds of popular characters that had an extremely unique scenario where they would meet and interact in unique ways. The game came with a starter pack that came with the Lego Dimensions portal and 3 characters. However the game could be extended by purchasing character, level and story packs which would unlock more of the game. One of the most popular packs is The Simpsons Level Pack which is new old stock that can be purchased from the RetroGame.News Online Shop.

The Simpsons Level Pack for Lego Dimensions contains one character and two objects that can interact with the game.
