Now here is something so inspired and ingenious that it makes you think “of course!” and “how did they think of that?!” simultaneously. An independent game developer from Spain somehow had the brilliant idea to make a version of Windows 3.1 for the Gameboy Color! How is this genius you may ask? Well, it essentially turns your Gameboy Color into a computer by allowing a Windows Paint-type sub application within the software to be able to print from the Gameboy printer! You can create pixel art with Paint and then print it out using the printer. See the image for example of a pixel art “Wario” being created. Apart from that it also has a version of the classic Windows game “Minesweeper”, a media player that can play music while you do other things, a virtual keyboard and another game that appears to be based on the classic Missile Defence. So all in all it’s a fairly limited version of Windows 3.1 but how much can you functionality can you expect to fit on a little Gameboy cartridge? I think he’s done well to be able to pack all that in it. Of course there may be more to it, I can’t say as I wasn’t able to get a copy myself. This is apparently the second run of GBS Windows that has been sold, and like the first run, it sold out just about immediately. The developer plans on producing another run of cartridges in several weeks which will be sold directly by the creator’s Etsy seller account. The “game” was created using the C++ programming language. If you happen to have a copy please let us know in the comments what it’s like, I’m very curious.
