Finally an Update after 3 Months of Silence
The last real update for Cronela’s Mansion was back in early March as the last post from Straynas was a post about how backers could add extra versions without needing to register new kickstarter accounts. It was strictly a logistical post, there was nothing in there at all about progress of the game. Now the backer’s patience has finally been rewarded after waiting 3 months we have just received an update from Straynus on the kickstarter webpages. Apparently a lot of work has been done on the NES version and also on the GBC version and the PC version too. Unfortunately the SNES and GBA versions have been put on hold as the other versions need to get done first for practical reasons such as re-use of assets. The NES version has received 4 new songs as well as 8 new scenes, which I’m guessing means rooms (which is the adventure game term) and a redesigned inventory user interface. There are more screenshots available on the discord channel however I won’t show them as I’d rather not have the whole game spoiled before I played it. You can always look them up if you are interested.
There are a couple really interesting screenshots included on the kickstarter webpages, however which I’ve shown here. As we can see by the first screenshot which is the blog post’s featured image, Tommy has lost his clothes and is standing in the house by the front door looking very cold. The inventory has changed as Straynus pointed out, there are now arrows to navigate the 8×8 inventory panels. The NES demo was already quite the game, I believe it was the longest from all the other versions. A lot of work had and has gone into it however Straynus has told us despite all the work still to go that they way this version is turning out the end result will be amazing. The Gameboy Color version looks very good too with a screenshot of the prison scene posted in this update. This is the equivalent Maniac Mansion scene where the main protaganists are captured by the psycho house owner’s and kept in their home dungeon (I’ll bet not many houses can boast having their own dungeons!). These are some very exciting and tantalizing screenshots and progress updates for all the backers and fans that have eagerly been awaiting a progress update of some sort since March.
The release date for the game to ship out is November 2025, which is fast approaching and is looking like a mountain of work is still to be done before any of the versions are finished. However it’s looking like the NES version will be finished first which I’m guessing will significantly speed up progress on the other versions as there is one less version to work on, plus you have all the assets, storyboard and everything else already there to work from which also reduces the programming time. So, while it seems like there is too much work to do before November (printing takes time too!) things should snowball and all start to fall into place right at the end. Another update has been promised to us in 3 weeks which all of us backer’s are no doubt really looking forward to.
