Yume Tenshi for Gameboy Color
The Homebrew Factory is taking pre-orders for a physical run of Yume Tenshi, a brand new game inspired on the obscure cult classic homebrew game Yume Nikki. For those who don’t know Yume Nikki was an obscure Japanese RPG released 2004 – 2007 and was distributed as freeware on the author’s website. It was initially programmed in Japanese but later got an English translation. It was created in RPG Maker 2003 exclusively for PC. The game is an obscure adventure RPG that has a unique effect system, granting Madotsuki special abilities that help her progress in the story. The game has no clear plot or storyline explanation, instead you explore the abstract nature of the worlds the character experiences during her dreams. There are many strange and disturbing images, creatures and other phenomena in the dream world. The game gained such a cult following that is has inspired many other games, most recently Yume Tenshi for the Gameboy Color.
This latest Yume Nikki inspired game has been in development for the Gameboy Color for over 2 years. The game is quite polished, and the graphics, while bland have big, well drawn sprites. The game has been released several months ago as a free digital download Gameboy Color rom (.GBC file), which you can find by following the relevant link at the bottom of this post. The author is trying to fund a physical run of Yume Tenshi so has started a pre-order campaign with a target of 24 orders required to make it a reality. As of the time of writing this article there are already 20 out of the 24 required pre-orders by the 18th of July. So there is still about 2.5 weeks to get another 4 pre-orders, it looks like it will be successful and a physical print run will happen. It’s likely that only enough will be printed to fulfill pre-orders, so if this game is one that interests you enough to own a physical copy then make sure to place a pre-order by the 18th of July.
