GF-1 Neptune Combines Mega Drive and 32X Into One Console
This was originally a genuine product idea that Sega meant to produce and sell in stores however the demand for the 32X was too small and not financially worth it for them to try to support. The 32X unfortunately suffered from a very small games library, it came out at a bad time when Sega was about to release the Sega Saturn and make the 32X a generation old obsolete console. So there wasn’t much reason for developers to produce games for it so it only ended up getting a handful of games. It still was quite a unique games system and it would have been good to get some more games for it. One decent exclusive game that it did get was Kolibri where you control a fiesty little humming bird and blast the other creatures trying to steal the precious nectar from your flowers.
It has been announced by the original team behind the Sega Neptune now that the console will be getting a release under the name of “GamesCare” a Brazilian distribution company. The release date for the console is in December 2025 (a lot seems to be happening around the end of the year). The console is going to be available at the launch date without any pre-orders or any form pre-funding financing. This is I suppose in case of any unforeseen problems they don’t want to be responsible to paying customer’s. This way nobody is put out if there is a problem. More exciting FPGA news, and this means that existing 32X machines on the market will lower in value a bit since there now will be an alternative on the market.
